Equal Opportunities Policy
You need an Equal Opportunities policy so that you do not deliberately or accidentally exclude someone from applying who could actually do the job.
There is a raft of legislation in the UK and coming from the European Union which make it illegal to discriminate against someone on the grounds of their gender, age, race and ethnicity, disability, marital status, faith and belief and sexual orientation.
In the UK, the various advisory bodies dealing with the variety of equal opportunities and anti-discrimination policies have merged into the Equality and Human Rights Commission or EHRC.It is important to ensure your Equal Opportunities Policy applies not only to recruitment procedures but also to learning and development, reward and redundancy policies and procedures. Links to general conduct policies and specifically anti-harassment policies make for an integrated approach.
